~The Solis Family~
Big Bear Lake photoshoots with locals are honestly so much fun! You know that they've spent many moments in the field they are standing in. Looking at the photos feels like home.
On this day, we had just gotten a few inches of snow a couple days prior. There were some lingering clouds from the storm, which make for epic lighting! Overcast days are some of my favorite to photograph in because it acts as one big soft box- creating even lighting and stunning natural contrast that I live for. Not to mention the clarity of the mountains in the back when it's cloudy outside. It was an easy decision to choose the well-known location of Juniper Point for these snowy Winter photos of the Solis Family! By the way, I mentioned these folks are locals, but I also wanted to be sure to shout out their Mexican family restaurant, Sonora Cantina. Best dang carnitas tacos and margs (and literally anything) on the mountain!
I absolutely adore photographing this family!! For so many reasons, but the number one being- they genuinely just want moments captured as they are. Cranky toddler or not. Big laughs or fits. Doesn't matter to them... they just want honest documentation and that's what I feel my purpose is with family photography. To document. And instead of getting stressed out that their kiddo isn't smiling at the camera in a posed photo, they laugh it off and keep on movin'.
There's something to be said about those that lean into acceptance like this. You know they have a lot more peace than others, because they aren't trying to control the situation... they simply let it flow. They trust me and my work; And they know that every photo will be felt and genuine. Sure, there's some direction given or some recommended poses that make sense for a photo, but otherwise, this is real life- the messy, the raw and the authentic moments that make up family dynamics. Oh, and a whole lot of love!
As you scroll through these, I am sure you will feel how we felt when taking them. It was most definitely a cold, cute, maybe a little chaotic, casual and candid Winter photoshoot that will live in my memory and website for years to come <3 Enjoy!!
